On this Christmas day, our team here at Catpanion wanted to start off by wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! We hope you all enjoy spending time with your family and friends, or even finding joy in experiencing the upcoming holiday season to your own enjoyment!

Today we do have some small updates to share with you! We will be sharing a quick update on the following:

  • Preview of the White, Black, Calico, and Tabby recolours
  • Update on the holding animations
  • Showcase of some of the cat's playing animations
  • Our futureproofing implementations
  • The upcoming month

Recolours of the Catpanions
We have some progress on the new Catpanion's colours that have not been shown! Currently Catpanion is working with a base of 4 Catpanion colours and patterns, with many more to be added after our release. The current ones we will be working with are the same from our initial GameJam project! White, Calico, Tabby, and Black.

Our designing of upcoming animations
In our period from our last posting, we have been working on progressing some more animations, mainly the Catpanion holding (Nearing its final linework) and the playing animations (still in draft). We wanted to preview these to you if you had any feedback to share with us! As always, create a ticket using our support channel on discord and let us know what you think!

Futureproofing Catpanion
We want to prepare Catpanion to be used in the long term, our ideal situation is to allow users to continue to play the game so long as technology allows us (looking at you unnamed operating system ). So behind the scenes we have been working hard on some pretty big systems which we have only briefly touched on. Three of our big things are language support, display support, and connection dependencies.

Language support:

  • As a good portion of Catpanion has a lot of story, dialogue, and interactions, we don't want to hard set ourselves to be ONLY English, so in our current development we have been carefully implementing the capability to use different language models. No other languages other than English will be available on official launch, but when the time comes we want the ability to access these. Developing these takes time, but will be great later on in Catpanions growth.

Display support:

  • As you saw in our December Update #1, we have been also working on the ability to customize your own UI and playing areas, As the tech industry grows, so does the demand of many different systems with such unique setups. One of the big factors is screen sizes -- with such a large range of resolutions and scaling; we are doing what we can now to tackle this early to maintain the ability for anyone with any setup to enjoy our game! The progress on it is going very well and we look forward to pushing this feature into our initial tests!

Connection Dependencies:

  • We wanted to briefly mention our intentions for Catpanion and the aspect of connecting to the internet. As it stands we do have support for dynamic updates (such as quests, holiday arts, etc) and are planning to implement steam for a lot of our extra connections, such as achievements and cosmetics. We have intentions to take full advantage of these features to provide lots of unique experiences to our players -- BUT we are also building Catpanion to NOT require these to function (which will be hosted on a non-steam platform). Catpanion is built to be playable offline and always will be, so you can show your elderly grandparents their unique virtual Catpanions without having to explain the concept of steam to them!

Our upcoming month

So as a small final note, we wanted to let you all know that January will be a 1 post month, which will be relatively small at the end of the month! Our team here at Catpanion are going to be busy for the holiday season and our working time is slimmed down to prioritise our personal lives. We will still do our best to provide some updates and progress, but wanted to let you know ahead of time so its not a shock!

Thank you all for being with us on this journey, and we look forward to sharing more with you soon! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
